Roof lanterns and glass roofs
Extensions often end up darker than expected, because the new room takes light away from the old one. A roof lantern solves that by bringing daylight straight down from above, where it reaches the middle of the room.
We supply and fit roof lanterns made in the UK, or supply only for trade, DIY and homeowners. Every size, height and upstand dimension is on this page.

Who it suits
Roof lanterns, pyramid lanterns and glass roof systems that bring daylight deep into extensions and garden rooms.
- Kitchen and dining extensions
- Orangeries and garden rooms
- Flat roofs that need more light
- Builders who need the drawings first
Why choose roof lanterns & glass roofs from us
Daylight from above
Overhead glazing lets in far more light than the same area of wall glazing.
Slim 60mm bars
Less frame and more sky, with aluminium castings at every joint.
Supply only too
For trade, DIY and homeowners, with the drawings and upstand sizes.
Roof lanterns
A roof lantern is a raised glazed roof that sits on a flat roof, on an upstand built around the opening. Its sloping glass sides catch light from every direction and give the room below a real sense of height.
Choose the Contemporary 4 panel, with no bars along the sides, or the Classic 6 panel, with an extra bar down the middle of each long side for a more traditional look. Both come in nine standard sizes up to 3000 × 2000mm, or made to measure.

Pyramid lanterns
A pyramid lantern has four equal panes meeting at a point. Its even, focused light makes it a centrepiece over a square room, a dining table or a hallway.
There are four standard sizes, from 1000 × 1000mm to 2500 × 2500mm, and bespoke sizes too.

Plan it early
If you’re having an extension built, it helps to involve us early. The lantern sits on an upstand your builder makes, so its size needs settling before the roof goes on.
Below you’ll find every standard size drawn to scale and the upstand your builder needs. Ask us and we’ll email the full technical drawings.

For your builder
The lantern sits on an upstand built around the roof opening. Its outside edge should match the lantern size, to +20 / −0mm. The frame is 104mm larger than the lantern size, so it overhangs the upstand by 52mm all round.
- At least 150mm high and 85mm wide
- Weathered on the top and sides, with nothing sticking out
- Solid enough to fix into from above

Flat, round and linear rooflights
We also supply and fit rooflights for flat roofs where a lantern isn’t right. Larger glass roofs are designed for each project, so send us drawings or photos.

Flat glass rooflights
Square or rectangular, singly or in a row, up to 3600 × 1650mm. A laminated inner pane comes as standard, and they can open by hand or electrically, or have trickle vents. Fixed versions carry Secured by Design accreditation.

Circular rooflights
Round rooflights from 600 to 1500mm across, from small bathrooms to large living rooms. Fitted to a builder’s upstand or supplied on an insulated kerb.

Glass Link
A continuous run of glass for long, narrow spaces, spanning up to 3800mm. Fixed and opening modules sit flush, so they look the same.
Common questions
What size upstand does a roof lantern need?
The outside of the upstand should match the lantern’s size, to within +20mm and −0mm. It needs to be at least 150mm high and 85mm wide, weathered on the top and sides, free of anything sticking out, and solid enough to fix into from above.
How tall is a roof lantern?
It depends on the width, because every pane is pitched at 25°. A 1000mm wide 4 or 6 panel lantern stands 348mm tall, 1500mm wide stands 464mm and 2000mm wide stands 581mm, measured from the top of the upstand.
Should I choose toughened or laminated glass?
Toughened glass is standard on the inner pane, and laminated is an option. The Rooflight Association recommends laminated as the first choice overhead, because if it breaks it holds together rather than falling.
How long does a roof lantern take to arrive?
Standard 4 and 6 panel sizes arrive 3 to 5 days from order. Bespoke sizes typically take 15 to 17 days.
Can you fit a roof lantern to an existing flat roof?
Often, yes, but it depends on the roof’s structure and condition. A new opening may need structural work. We’ll look at the roof at survey and tell you what’s involved.
Can I buy a roof lantern supply only?
Yes. We sell lanterns supply only for trade, DIY and homeowners. Pay as you go, no account needed. Send us the sizes for a quote.
